Quick Update: To Do List

Monday, March 14th, 2011

I added the following characters to the To Do List:

  • Dante from Devil May Cry
  • Link from The Legend of Zelda

It's off to the To Do List with the both of them!

If you have any suggestions to add to the list, just post them on the comments section.

Assassin’s Creed Paper Toy – Ezio

Friday, March 11th, 2011

So I ended up designing an Ezio paper toy and not an Altair.  Thanks to Vai for differentiating the two characters for me.

When assembling the hands – blade, remember to slightly fold the wrists to show more of the retractable blade.  Also, I posted a quick tutorial a couple of days ago, it shows you how to assemble the hood.  Check it out here.

Ezio has always been shy, ever since he was a little boy back in assassin school.

Retractable blade - don't forget to fold the wrist.

We were never really sure if he was really just a shy guy or allergic to light sources.

That’s all for now.  Enjoy!

WIP: Assassin’s Creed Paper Toy Part 2 – How to Assemble the Hood

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Just a quick update on the Assassin’s Creed paper toy that I’ve been working on.

I’ve finally decided on a ” folding pattern ” for the hood.  I designed a couple of studies previously and finally settled on one of them.  I think what I ended up with is consistent with how the base contender template is designed – it’s sorta hard to explain, so let’s just leave it at that.

The template is not ready for download just yet, I am still making a few modifications.  It should be available in a few days, so check back soon.

For now, let me just show you a quick step-by-step guide on how to fold the hood ( and the face ).  Just refer back to this post once the template is out.

Step 1: Prefold, prefold, prefold.

Step 2: Assemble the body. Position the parts of the front section similar to how it was done in the image.

Step 3: Glue the left and right edges at the back.

Step 4: Glue the sides of the face on both sides ( internal ) of the hood. Use the crease to help you position the face section.

Stop 5: Apply glue on the tabs of the hood sections ( sides ). Insert and glue them into the side folds of the hood's center section.

It’s quite challenging to write assembly instructions.  Hopefully these images help show the process.

That’s it for now.  Check back soon for the finished template.

Custom: Kamen Rider

Friday, March 4th, 2011

The Contender – Kamen Rider style!

The very talented people of  Kamen Rider Art came up with this cool custom using the contender template.  I’m not that familiar with the  characters of the series but I’m definitely digging how they did this one.

I’m  luvin’ the accessories.  Check out those claws, it even has a ” folded ” and ” armed ” version.

Move over Wolverine!

They also designed a couple of other rider paper toys using the template.  One of them has cool wings.  I’ll post more pictures next time.

So, are you ready for some Kamen Rider paper toy action?  Go and download the template from their site.  The template will be downloadable from this site as well – just as soon as I finish preparing a special download page for it that is  😉

A big shout out to the Kamen Rider people!  Many thanks for creating the custom!

Now Available! Paper Toy Blanks: Contender, Basic

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

I am releasing a series of blank templates of the paper toys that have been released through this blog.  Feel free to create your own paper toys based on the templates.

My only request is to be given due credit and a link to this site.   I’ll put up a special page to feature the custom toys ( assuming there’s enough that is  HAHA ).  Where can you download the templates?  Definitely from the creators site – I am still mulling over whether or not to put up a special downloads section for the customs.  I’ll keep you posted.

To the ” customizers “, make sure to tell me about your custom so I can write a post about your creation as well as direct readers to your site.  You can always reach me through the contact form of this blog.  If possible, do send me pictures, sketches, etc,.. of your toy so I can include them in the post – you know, behind the scene / WIP stuff.  Don’t forget to send me the download link.  😉

First up is ” Contender, Basic ”

Please be gentle with me 😉

The others will follow soon enough.

  • Rondo, Basic
  • Contender, Basic ( uploaded )
  • Contender, Ears ( the one used for Wolverine, Heihachi, etc… )
  • Contender, Hood ( coming soon )
  • Contender, Accessories
  • The Brute ( with head and without )
  • Muscular ( coming soon )
  • Steam Punk Series ( coming soon )

As always, you can download the template here.  Subscribe to this blog to receive the password in the mail and gain access to the downloads section.  Registration is free, just enter your email address in the subscribe field at the right-hand side of the page header.

That’s all for now.  Cheers!
