Captain America, the “First Avenger” Paper Toy

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

When Captain America throws his mighty shield,

all those who chose to oppose his shield must yield.

If he’s led to a fight and a duel is due,

then the red and white and the blue’ll come through.

When Captain America throws his mighty shield.

Watch my movie! I guarantee you'll see stars!

For those of you who aren’t old enough to know what betamax cartidges are (Look it up, QUICK!), Mighty Marvel Comics released a number of  cartoons based on their popular comic book titles a long, long, long, long, looong time ago.  Captain America was one of the comic titles that had a series.  The other 3 titles were Thor, Hulk, and the Fantastic Four (If memory serves that is – someone correct me PLEASE!).  For all you mutie fans out there, sorry, the X-Men weren’t around yet – either that or Professor X’ band of atomic childeren were just starting out.

For those of you who are wondering, the first few lines of this post are the lyrics to the cartoon’s theme song.

Flash forward 4 to 5 decades later and we get to see the “First Avenger” in all his glory on the big screen (the second time around – look that up too).  Not only can you watch him beat up the bad guys in the cinema, you can also have your own star-spangled hero on your very own desktop!  Available for free, for all your Red Skull-bashing needs!

Ummm... have you seen my shield? I think I lost it.

We want YOU!

Now go and watch the movie!  Let us know if you liked it – sound off in the comments section.

Cheers!

Crafty Collab: Beware of the Kaiju Paper Toys Part 2 – Gamera!

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

To all the Kaiju fans out there.  We’ve got another one from Shaun Breedlove.

This is the second installment in his Kaiju series.  If you missed the first one, just go here.

For this week, it’s everyone’s favorite, giant, flying, fire-breathing turtle… with TUSKS!  The friend of all children; Gamera!  The Showa era version.

Look ma! no wings!

Shaun also provided some more information about this Kaiju:

” Gamera (ガメラ) is a giant, flying turtle from a popular series of kaiju (Japanese giant monster) films produced by Daiei Motion Picture Company in Japan. Created in 1965 to rival the success of Toho Studios’ Godzilla during the daikaiju boom of the mid-to-late 1960s, Gamera has gained fame and notoriety as a Japanese icon in his own right.”

The gran'daddy of all mutant ninja turtles!

Say CHEESE!

I’m definitely luvin’ the details on this baby!  Especially the shell on his back.

That’s it for now.   Watch out for more Kaiju goodness in the next few weeks.

Cheers!

Crafty Collab: Separated at Birth?

Friday, July 1st, 2011

To me, they sort of have similar attitudes, abilities, and masks – Okay fine, Deadpool has an advantageous healing factor plus I think he’s  more of a motor mouth than Red is, so there.  But still, don’t you think the resemblance is uncanny? LOL

DeadHood or RedPool? To be or not to be...

"So, what do you think of that actor from the Green Lantern movie?"

This Crafty Collab was brought to you by our dear friends at Square Head Papercraft.  They released Deadpool a while back, but I was only able to post about it just now.  Deadpool comes with a wide array of murder and mayhem.  You’ll have to supply the “motormouth-ness”.

In case you just joined us now, I released a Red Hood paper toy a few weeks ago.  Feel free to check it out here.

The template is available for download from both the Square Head site and here.  Subscribe to this blog to receive the password in the mail and gain access to the downloads section.  Registration is free, just enter your email address in the subscribe field at the right-hand side of the page header.

That’s all for now.

Cheers!
