StuffaGami: Takuo Toda’s Record-breaking Paper Airplane

Friday, February 25th, 2011

I posted a while back about Ken Blackburn’s record-breaking paper airplane.  It was aloft for 27.6 seconds.

This post is about Takuo Toda’s winning paper airplane design, aptly named ” Sky King “.  His, stayed in the air 0.3 seconds more than Ken’s.  Talk about close!

Go ahead and try it out.  Use the folding pattern and the how-to-fold video found here.  In case you want to learn how to throw a paper plane the record-breaking way, go here.

Cheers!

StuffaGami: Record-breaking Paper Airplane by Ken Blackburn

Let’s try something different 😉

Have you ever folded a paper plane that can stay in the air for at least 10 seconds?  How about 7?  5?  Yeah, me neither – I’ve tried but the best I’ve ever done is 2 to 3 seconds. LOL.

I came across this paper airplane pattern a few years ago.  It was designed by Ken Blackburn.  The plane held the Guinness Book of World Record for  time aloft for a number of years until Takuo Toda’s plane design posted a longer time in 2009.  Blackburn’s record was 27.6 seconds, Toda’s was 27.9 – talk about close.  Both planes beat my paltry3 second plane hands down.  Oh well.

Fold and Fly! Use letter or A4-sized paper. Any will do actually.

Ken’s site didn’t have folding instructions for the plane so I made my one based on his his instructions.  Hopefully it’s clear enough.  In case it is still unclear.  I looked around the net for for instructions and came across a video that shows how to fold the plane.  Go watch it.

I thought I’d try it this weekend.  I’m posting it in case you might like to try it too.

One last thing.  It seems that there is a way to properly throw a plane in order to achieve longer “hang” time.  Since I’m in a instructions-making mood, I’ve prepared a quick tut for you.  Check it out here.

That’s it for now.  Fold it, fly it, time it, then share it.  Post your record times people!

One last note.  In case you’re wondering, I’ll do a post on Toda’s plane soon.  Cheers!
