ActionCraft Toy Box, The Kickstarter Campaign!

Monday, June 15th, 2015

Hey guys!

I just wanted to share a more information about what we’re doing with ActionCraft Toy Box. If you didn’t catch my previous post about it, no worries, go here then come back right after.

As mentioned previously, the current version of the app allows you to do these:

  • Choose from a number of themed models, so far we have 6 i.e. Knight, Sorceress, Soldier, Tech Girl, and 2 general model)
  • Customize your chosen model with pre-made textures and graphics
  • Email the final design to yourself to print later or you can print wirelessly

Meet 2 of our original characters, soon to star in their own paper toy story book!

We want to add a couple more features to make the app even better:
  • DRAWING TOOLS that will allow you to design your own textures/graphics
  • The GLOBAL PAPER TOY GALLERY where you can upload and share your designs with others

So far, I’ve self-funded the app, but as you all know, developing an app like this needs a lot of effort and resources. Which is why I’m reaching out to all of you for support – since you’ll likely  be using the app anyway, why not help me finish it, right?

Let's Kickstart this baby!

I’m going to run a KICKSTARTER Campaign this June. It’s going to start this June 20 and end early August of this year. Kickstarter is a crowd funding site that helps people like me develop something like ActionCraft Toy Box for you with your help. You can find out more about Kickstarter here.

I’m running the campaign to add the features I described above, plus depending on how much support you can provide, a few other cool things I think you’ll definitely like.

For almost half a decade now, I’ve shared a lot of free paper toys through this blog. Those same toys were downloaded from around the world, showcased in galleries, featured in craft workshops and classes, as well as re-posted or shared through different websites and blogs.

I like to think that anyone who has downloaded any of my designs had as much fun with them as much as I’ve had fun making them. I set out to build this app so that you yourself can experience even more fun creating and sharing your own designs with others. That, as well as make it easy for you to make your own paper toy action figures to play with your friends and family or just for display.

Sound good so far? If so, COOL!

This project is VERY IMPORTANT to me – I hope it’s something that you can appreciate enough to support. Tell all your cool craft y friends and relatives about the ActionCraft Toy Box Kickstarter campaign. Ask them to support it. Every bit of help we can get for this project will really help us finish the app as well as give you a very cool tool to use and create with. Just imagine the many creative things you can do with it.

I’ll tell you more about the ActionCraft Toy Box Kickstarter Campaign in the next few days – like one of the great things about Kickstarter – THE REWARDS!

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for the app itself, let me know – maybe we can still squeeze them in.

That’s it for now.

Cheers!

The Rumors of My … Ummm – Have Been Greatly Exaggerated!

Wednesday, April 1st, 2015

OH MY!

It’s been more than a year since my last post – What happened?

A number of things actually, which I’ll expound on below. But before anything else, I’d like to confirm that I am very much alive and kicking.

And now for a bunch of answers to a question:

Why haven’t I been posting? Plenty of reasons actually, and here they are:

  1. I lost my access to the blog (DON’T LAUGH) and didn’t have time to recover it until recently.
  2. I’ve been busy with work – I have this game dev company that works with different clients. Running it is no joke, and it eats up a lot of time.
  3. My team has been working on the first of our Hyper Games episodic series – currently in limited soft launch, due for official release this year.
  4. We’ve been working on MashUP Tactics too, also due for release very soon (fingers crossed) Check out our page and like it!!!
  5. Most importantly, for all the GREAT PAPER TOY ENTHUSIASTS out there,  I’ve also been working on this:

Coming very soon to an app store near you...

More details to come in later posts 😉

For now, I just wanted to say a big HELLO to anyone who’s still out there.

That’s all for now.

Cheers!

Crafty Collab: Alex Mercer Paper Toy

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

We start off this month with a uber Crafty Collab from the talented Mr. Emmo Hernández.  He is a student from México, who, much like many mexicans, really loves tacos!  Aside from arts and crafts and parkour, he enjoys any type of music related to Rock – Classic, Rock & Roll, and Alternative.

“My name is Alex Mercer. I’m the reason for all this. They call me a killer, a monster, a terrorist… I’m all of these things.”
―Alex Mercer

This week he shares with us Alex Mercer, the main protagonist of the Prototype game series.  Way cool if I do say so myself.  For more information about the game and character, go to this link.  Afterwards, come back and download the template.

The template can be downloaded here.  You’ll find him in the Video Games section.  Subscribe to this blog to receive the password in the mail and gain access to the downloads section.  Registration is free, just enter your email address in the subscribe field at the right-hand side of the page header.

If you need any help in putting this paper toy together, just go to the Assembly Instructions page.  You’ll find plenty of quick links to step-by-step tutorials on how to assemble the toys released from this blog.

Zelda + Link + Paper Toy…

Monday, August 19th, 2013

A looooong time ago, I mentioned in a post that I was making  a paper toy based on Link from the Legend of Zelda series.  The paper toy is finally finished and it’s high time I released the guy.

The Trench Coats are Coming!

Thursday, July 4th, 2013

So I’ve been going through my paper toy files from a while back and was immediately reminded of the many toy projects that I left hanging due to my hiatus (shame on me).  One of those projects was the Trench Coat series – simply put, a series of paper toys that feature characters wearing (GASP!) trench coats.

The Trench Coats are Coming Very Soon...

As you can see, the first batch includes Grifter, Dante, and Gambit.  That said, as I get back into the swing of things and eventually release these bad boys for all of you to download and enjoy, I would like to know in what order you want them to be released – this is because although I am back for the time being, I still have a lot of stuff on my plate regardless.  I still need to clean up the templates and would like to know which one to prioritize for release.

Which one should I release first?

  • Grifter with trench coat and guns
  • Dante with trench coat, guns, and sword
  • Gambit wit trench coat, quarter staff, and cards

The release dates for these can vary by weeks or months, so if you really want a character to be released sooner than later, now is the time to vote and be heard.  PM me through the contact box on the right or just sound off in the comments section below.  Obviously, the character with the most votes gets released first 😉

That’s it for now, Cheers!

Assassin’s Creed Paper Toy – Ezio

Friday, March 11th, 2011

So I ended up designing an Ezio paper toy and not an Altair.  Thanks to Vai for differentiating the two characters for me.

When assembling the hands – blade, remember to slightly fold the wrists to show more of the retractable blade.  Also, I posted a quick tutorial a couple of days ago, it shows you how to assemble the hood.  Check it out here.

Ezio has always been shy, ever since he was a little boy back in assassin school.

Retractable blade - don't forget to fold the wrist.

We were never really sure if he was really just a shy guy or allergic to light sources.

That’s all for now.  Enjoy!

Kratos Paper Toy (Contender Version) from God of War

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Kratos, the paper toy, part 2.  This is my second toy release of “this” God of War.  The first one used the “brute” template, while this one uses the “contender”.  Why 2 versions?  Well at first I was planning to do just the contender version, but some of you requested for the brute, so there.

This template comes with the Blades of Athena – it took me a while to finish them.  The design had too much detail and the references online didn’t do it much justice.  Kudos to the creative team who developed the character.  Anyway, I eventually decided to just go easy on the details and keep it simple.  I also wanted to include those “lion gauntlets” of his, but I didn’t find enough “detailed” references online either.  So I decided to just nix the lions.  I think it turned out well, regardless.

Yeah, I think I'm cooler than the brute version, don't you?

I also included 2 versions of his arms.  I suggest you try out different combinations and not use the same “angle” of the arm as the swords will get in the way.  You’ll have to download the template and assemble the toy to know what I’m talking about.

I am Kratos, the NEW Iron Chef

You can download the template here. Subscribe to this blog to receive the password in the mail and gain access to the downloads section.  Registration is free, just enter your email address in the subscribe field at the right-hand side of the page header.

That’s all for now.  Check back next week for Shank and then some.  Cheers!

Kratos Paper Toy (Brute Version) from God of War

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Kratos! Finally!  Took me long enough – another busy week at work and a bunch of Holiday errands combined, whew!  What a very hectic season indeed.

Isn't he just adorable?

Again, just a reminder (if you’re not sick of it yet) – As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, this paper toy uses the Brute template.  I will be releasing another Kratos paper toy using the Contender template which will include selected weapons from the God of War game series.   I hope you have fun with this one.  Suggestion: Put him on your Christmas tree or something LOL (just make sure to glue his arms so they don’t fall off).  Kratos should make for the meanest Christmas Tree ornament ever!

So who do you think would win in a wrestling match, Santa or Kratos?

You can download the template here. Subscribe to this blog to receive the password in the mail and gain access to the downloads section.  Registration is free, just enter your email address in the subscribe field at the right-hand side of the page header.

That’s all for now.  Check back soon.  Jin is next!
