Coming Soon: Devil Jin from Tekken (2 of 2)

January 4th, 2011

Hi all.  Just a quick update on Devil Jin.  I started working on the prototype last night.  It’s looking good so far, but I have to do some minor adjustments – Like not forget to add his horns for instance LOL.

I completely forgot to add them in the template.  I ended up doing a hack just to see if my idea worked – which I think it did.

I also need to shorten the bone protrusions that come from his elbows.  They get in the way of his wings, nothing too troublesome.  Check out the WIP images below.

The wings, get ready with your scissors! This is going to be a tough one.

I need to add the horns in the template and adjust the graphics. I like the way it turned out.

Devil Jin should be ready for download later this week.  Cheers for now!

Coming Soon: Devil Jin from Tekken (1 of 2)

December 29th, 2010

Devil Jin from Tekken, coming soon.  I thought doing a paper toy with horns (not shown in the preview image below) and wings would be fun to do.  For all you X-Men fans out there, this also means I’ll have a wing template ready for an Archangel paper toy, which sounds very good if I do say so myself, don’t you agree?

Outta my way! I can beat you up with just my face tattoos!

Going back to Devil Jin – the graphics are almost done.  I just finished his wings last night and I also figured out how to do his horns.  The template should be available for download soon, likely late next week – plenty of holiday stuff getting in the way 😉

That’s it for now.  Happy Holidays everyone!  Cheers!

Kratos Paper Toy (Brute Version) from God of War

December 23rd, 2010

Kratos! Finally!  Took me long enough – another busy week at work and a bunch of Holiday errands combined, whew!  What a very hectic season indeed.

Isn't he just adorable?

Again, just a reminder (if you’re not sick of it yet) – As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, this paper toy uses the Brute template.  I will be releasing another Kratos paper toy using the Contender template which will include selected weapons from the God of War game series.   I hope you have fun with this one.  Suggestion: Put him on your Christmas tree or something LOL (just make sure to glue his arms so they don’t fall off).  Kratos should make for the meanest Christmas Tree ornament ever!

So who do you think would win in a wrestling match, Santa or Kratos?

You can download the template here. Subscribe to this blog to receive the password in the mail and gain access to the downloads section.  Registration is free, just enter your email address in the subscribe field at the right-hand side of the page header.

That’s all for now.  Check back soon.  Jin is next!

Kratos – Brute Version – Coming Soon

December 15th, 2010

Kratos – God of War.  one of the coolest video game characters ever!  I’m releasing 2 versions of Kratos, one uses the new Brute template and the other uses the Contender template.  I’m going to release the second version with weapons and accessories, I’m not done with them yet, but they should be ready to go early next year.

Is he mean-looking enough for ya?

Which reminds me, I need help from all you God of War fans out there.  Note that I haven’t played the game yet.  The lionhead-shaped-looking boxing gloves – what are they for?  What do they do?  Also, as of the moment, I’m in the process of preparing Kratos’ big sword, those 2 fiery scimitar-looking ones, and (as long as I figure out what they are) the lionhead shaped gauntlets.  Any other suggestions on what God of War weapon I should include in the release?  I’ve been researching online and so far, those 3 are the most common ones that I’ve come across.  I’m open to suggestions, but I make no promises.

That’s all for now. Looking forward to your suggestions.  Cheers!

Bane Paper Toy – The Brute! A brand new template Part 4 of 4

December 10th, 2010

The Brute, at long last!  I do like how this paper toy turned out.

Before I go on, this is just version 1, I discovered this shape while working towards a more “muscular” look.  This means that I’m still at work on a less-brutish and more muscular paper toy form – much closer to what I originally set out to do.

CHEESE!

Stand up and fight! You puny Iron Man reject!

So without further ado, I give you Bane!  Ready to duke it out with my earlier Batman Beyond paper toy (as you can see above).  And before anyone else asks, since we do have a Wolverine paper toy ready and waiting, it’s only fitting that I release a Hulk paper toy using this template.  I just can’t decide what color to go with LOL.  Suggestions anyone – Green, Grey, or Red?

You can download the template here. Subscribe to this blog to receive the password in the mail and gain access to the downloads section.  Registration is free, just enter your email address in the subscribe field at the right-hand side of the page header.

Alright, who's next !?!

The Brute! A brand new template Part 3

December 8th, 2010

After a very, very, very busy 3 days at the office, I was finally able to squeeze some paper toy work in.  First up for your viewing pleasure is an update on the Brute.  The first character to “wear” the template is?

Take a good look at these beauties...

The graphics are done and adjustments have been made.  All I need to do now is test the prototype and this bruiser will be ready for download.  Note, I will still release toys using the contender template (Heihachi, GenRex, Snake, etc,.. ), I just needed to work on something different for a change.

Why the two heads?  Well, I just thought I’d give options on which one to use.  The one on the left is based on the animated series, the other in the comics (sorta).  Just use what you prefer the most OR mix them up depending on your mood. 😉

One more thing, I’ve mentioned in a previous post that I’ll be releasing another “brutish” template, something more muscular and less, well “brutish”.  Watch out for that one.

Don’t know what I’m babbling about?  Check out the first 2 parts of this series. Click here to read Part 1, and here to read Part 2.

One quick question, which Ben10 alien character would work well with the Brute template?  That’s all for now, the paper toy should be ready for release later this week.  Cheers!

Has it really been 1 year already? SPOILER ALERT! Read at your own risk.

December 7th, 2010

This is a delayed post.  This blog was launched sometime in October 2009, but I never got around to really post anything till around mid January 2010.  This is because I really didn’t know a thing about blogging at that time so I had to start from scratch – figure out how to use WordPress, how to install a theme and use plugins.  I had to get comfortable with writing a post to an invisible audience and actually publishing it.  I also had to learn how to upload pictures, create links, and so on.  Now, around 1 year after, I still don’t know what I’m doing, but whatever it is that I’m doing, it’s a lot more fun to do.

Year One!

So, I’ve decided to adopt and choose a blog birth date.  I’m officially making it December 7 –  because I want to release this post today so I can finally get back to work on those paper toy projects before the Christmas rush starts!

Where are we at so far?  At this time, Paper Toy Adventures has:

52 published articles

550+ subscribers

12,946 visits

39,981 page views

Very humble numbers, I know, especially to all you established bloggers out there, but hey, it is what it is.  I don’t know what other figures are appropriate when celebrating a blog birthday so I’m sticking with the ones I posted above.  Really, I never thought a bunch of people would actually take the time to visit the site, download my stuff, let alone read and comment on the blog.  It’s a fantastic feeling, I have to say, knowing that there are people out there who like what you like and and appreciate what you do. (sniff-sniff)

What have I learned and what’s coming in year 2?

  • More free paper toys of super cool characters you know and love. It seems site visitors like paper toys of game, cartoon, and movie characters.  I like them too, so watch out for more of those next year.
  • Variety! I want more of it, meaning more templates to work with, and different paper “toy” formats to explore.  This past few weeks, I’ve exposed myself to a lot of creativity expressed through paper.  People around the world (yes, you’re one of them) are just very, very, very talented and inspiring.
  • Paper Toy Improv. I like and enjoy it!  Many thanks to VinsArt for coming up with that bright idea.  I’ve already done plenty of “improvisations” behind the scenes and will share them with you.  I will revise the “rules and objectives” a bit, just for my blog at least, make it my own so to speak.  To all you parents and bored cubicle-dwelling zombies out there, watch out for this – it’s going to be fun.
  • No more online games, just focus on paper. I had a hard time posting and “rebooting” the online game section of this blog to no success.  I’ve decided to just get rid of it and everything else related.  I’ll leave the “online game dev’ing” stuff in the office, where it’s supposed to be.   For those of you who want to know more of the game character concepts that I had in mind. send me a message and I’ll share the list with you.

Goals for year 2:

  • Stick to my blog post schedule.  Believe it or not, I actually manage a blog calendar and plan out all my posts weeks (sometimes months) before, I just tend to push everything back due to real life matters, work, and stuff in between. LOL Sigh, if only one can stop time once in a while or move really fast.
  • Publish a book.  You know, those heavy things with lots of paper in them, normally used for what they call “reading”.  I’m already in the process of creating content for them.  Hopefully a publisher is reading this post (ahem!).
  • Launch an eStore.  Obviously for selling really cool paper stuff with, in order to support and maintain this blog (paper and ink, server costs, among other things, cost money you know).  Note: FREE paper toys will still be a main staple in this blog.  It’s just that there are some paper-related ideas that are worth a buck or two (Fingers crossed).
  • Get 100,000 page views per month. This is a tough one, but hey, a guy can dream, right?  (Help me out whydoncha!  Tell your friends about the blog!)
  • Increase the blog subscribers to 5,000.The more, the merrier!  And yes, I’m still dreaming!

My thanks to all of you who have been adventuring with me this past year!  It’s been a wild ride!

That’s it then!  Enough of this gibberish.  Buy yourself yer favorite drink and celebrate with me!  Cheers to one and all!

Quick and Shameless request…

December 3rd, 2010

Hi,

I just installed the share and follow plugin for the blog. I’d appreciate it a lot if you could test it out.  Just want to see if the counters and buttons work.  Thanks in advance!  Cheers!

Solid Snake Paper Toy from Metal Gear Solid

December 2nd, 2010

Solid Snake is now available for download!  This paper toy release augments my earlier posts about props and ranged weapons, and also just so that Gray Fox has someone to play with.  Included in this release is a rifle, a couple of pistols, a knife (I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen snake with a knife, but I had space for it so there), the stinger, and a few “grenades”.

Hmmm...

Insert evil laughter here...

Lock and load!

caption 5

2 Guns... er...Twin Snakes?

Some assembly notes for the rifle: for Snake to “hold” it, his right hand must hold the gun handle, and his left hand, more like his top-most finger, must be inserted in the “slit” near the gun barrel.  All the other accessories use the grip feature – not familiar?  Learn more about it.

Get a grip!

This was fun to do!  Tell your friends about it!  More to come, so check back often.  Cheers!
