It’s Not Easy Being Green – The Arrow Paper Toy Now Available

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015

I’ve been wanting to design this paper toy ever since the “Arrow” TV series started airing – actually, ever since the character started showing up in the Justice League Unlimited TV series. Why? It’s because of the mustache and goatie man, they’re the best and sharpest in the business (Except for Dashing Fandral’s maybe – NAH)

Where to base the texture on was tough to decide on too, there are a lot of great designs that represent the character – Bruce Timm’s were great (again the mustache and goatie)! Phil Bourassa’s were top notch! Plus all the designs of all the great artists who drew GA in the comics.

Enter the CW series – I think they did a really good job, they also helped me make my decision on where to base this toy on. Virtual pat on the back right there.

Anyway, I’ll be posting a bunch of captioned stuff on the papertoyadventures instagram account, it’s been fun, especially with the Daredevil character coming fresh off the presses just weeks ago with both characters being vigilantes. Check them out when you can.

Young Justice – Red Arrow Paper Toy

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

The Red Arrow paper toy is now available!

This paper toy is based on the character from the Young Justice cartoon series.  It includes a bow, arrow, and a quiver.

As I’ve mentioned in an earlier post, I really like the series, which prompted me to make paper toys based on the characters.

Put your hands up where I can see 'em!

I’ve included some tips on how to pose the toy with the archer paraphernalia below.

What to do with the bow...

and arrow... all set!

It’s best to prepare the bow and arrow first.  Do not apply glue inside the blow oval – you’ll need this “unglued” so you can insert the arrow into the ” bow slit “.  Yes, it’s sort of a cheat, but hey, it works! Just do it, you’ll thank me later.

Arrow Arm Slit

Use tweezers or something similar to widen the slit – just so it’s easier to insert the arrow later.

Arms to use for the different poses. Take your pick.

You can choose from 2 possible poses for the archer.  You will have to use 2 different sets of hands to do this.  Both sets use the the ” straight ” version of the right ( arrow ) arm.  The left ( bow ) arm is what’s different, as you can see.

This is how we FOLD it...

The technique here is to fold the wrists, just use the image above as a reference on how to how to fold them.

Pose 1

  • The arrow arm is folded at the wrist, inwards, towards the archer’s body ( when attached ).
  • The bow arm is NOT folded.

Pose 2

  • Just like pose 1, the arm is folded inwards at the wrist.
  • The bow arm’s wrist is folded outwards.

...and Voila!

The image above shows you how the poses should look like after you attach the arms.  Insert the fletching ( non-pointed tip of the arrow ) into the ” arrow arm ” slit after attaching both arms.

That’s it!

WIP: Red Arrow Paper Toy from Young Justice

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Whoeee!  I’ve been so very busy at work the past few weeks.  I was lucky enough to squeeze in some paper toy-related activities despite everything that’s happening.

I’ve always wanted to come up with an archer paper toy.  Seeing the Young Justice characters ( specifically, Red Arrow – even if he’s not an official member of the group ) helped me push that “want” into a reality.  To be honest, it’s still a work in progress right now, but I think it’s coming along quite nicely.

I didn't have the luxury of time to assemble the Red Arrow "body". Luckily, Kratos was nice enough to help test and pose using the bow and arrow. LOL

The image above shows just one of the archer poses.  The other one has the toy aiming in a more forwardish ( if that’s even a word ) direction.  Watch out for the final version soon.

Also, it isn’t really that evident because most of the activities are happening behind the scenes, but I’m very happy about how Crafty Collabs is turning out.  I’m very happy with the collaborations that are happening behind the scenes.  Plenty of enhancements in the works, plus some new templates to boot.  If you’re interested in getting in on the collaborative action, just let me know through this blog’s contact form.

That’s all for now.  Cheers!
