Crafty Collab: Beware of the Kaiju Paper Toys Part 1

Monday, June 20th, 2011

This one is from our friend Shaun Breedlove, who just started work on a series of Kaiju paper toys using a customized version of the contender template.  Now I’m not that familiar with Kaiju so let’s see what Google has to say about it…

According to Wikipedia, Kaiju is Japanese for “Strange Beast”, translated usually in English as “Monster”.  I can totally see why – have you ever heard of Godzilla?  Y’know, big guy, with scales, has terrorized cities in both Japan and the US, if memory serves (I doubt it), there was even a movie where Godzilla and KingKong made a wrestling ring out of New York.

I’ll be releasing Shaun’s Kaiju templates on the site, first up is Gyaos.

I am Kaiju, here me ROAR!

For reference, below is some information on this Kaiju from both Shaun and Wikipedia:

”  Gyaos is the name of several daikaiju from Daiei’s Gamera film series, introduced in their 1967 production Gamera vs. Gyaos and one of Gamera’s most famous opponents. It is the only Gamera foe to appear in the Showa, Heisei, and Millennium Gamera films.

Gyaos resembles a giant cross between a pterosaur and a bat, with a flattened, arrow-shaped head, leathery wings with three claws on each, taloned feet, and a fish-like tail. It has dull blue (or red) skin in most incarnations. The Gyaos in Gamera: Guardian of the Universe had a more streamlined appearance, with larger wings and a longer neck, as well as red eyes.  Gyaos can shoot a ray from it’s mouth made of concentrated sound waves as well as emit a chemical cloud from it’s abdomen that puts out flame.  ”

You can download the template here.  Subscribe to this blog to receive the password in the mail and gain access to the downloads section.  Registration is free, just enter your email address in the subscribe field at the right-hand side of the page header.

That’s it for now.
